The word Bhaderwah is derived from the Hindu Goddess Bhadrakali. Formerly known as Bhaderkashi the name of place got corrupted to Bhaderwah.The land of picturesque snow capped mountains and rivers, dense black forests of deodar and pine trees, lakes and gardens, natural springs, variety of beautiful landscapes and grassy meadows, terrace fields, pleasant summers, old Temples and Mosques, glaciers, flora and fauna, alpine vegetation, easy treks, grinders operating from flowing rivers without using electricity and lots more. Many types of natural mushrooms and herbs grow in its forests. Art / Botany/ Geography teachers and nature lovers will definitely enjoy the place.
The people of Bhaderwah are known for their hospitality and rich culture irrespective of any caste or religion. They enjoy the presence of the tourists in the valley and will immediately join together in case of any help or emergency.
Bhadarwah is situated at a distance of 200 km from Jammu, 165 km from Katra and 90 km from Patnitop to its North at a height of 5000 ft. above the sea level. The road diverts after crossing 09 km Chenani – Nasri tunnel on Jammu Srinagar National Highway towards right to Batote and thereafter to Bhaderwah (80 Kms). Driving on Batote Bhaderwah Road provides a view of Bagliar Dam and Chenab River along with eateries at Ramgarh famous for serving Rajma, Rice with desi ghee and anar dana chutney. Bhaderwah shares its border with Chamba/Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh. A motor able road connects Bhaderwah with Chamba/Dalhousie (136 Kms). Srinagar is 280 Kms from Bhaderwah.
On the way from Jammu to Bhaderwah you can easily add Jammu, Reashi, Shiv Khori, Katra-Vaishnodevi, Sudh Mahadev, Kud, Patnitop, Sanasar, Pul Doda and Kishtwar as your additional destinations.
The nearest Railhead is Udhampur (135 Kms), Katra(165 Kms) and Jammu (200 Kms) The nearest Airport is Jammu ( 210 Kms) and Srinagar ( 290 Kms)
